As I am quickly approaching the end of my senior, I am looking back at how far I have come since freshman year and everything that Henley High School has helped me accomplish in my life. In preparation for the life that every senior must experience after school, the senior capstone project was put in place to help seniors find out what they would suit them as career and give them some of the necessary tools in achieving that. Part of the capstone was earning service hours at a non profit organization, that can go on a resume. With serving came a facilitator, who guides one’s service, and also the challenges and success of the service itself. To Provide help on future careers, Henley High School also provided an opportunity to take the CIS test
At Miller Children Hospital in Long Beach I have developed certain skills that are necessary in order to go into the Human Services Career. At Miller I have learned how to communicate with different people, learn how to take things not seriously, and how to not let my emotions get in the way of assisting children and family. When I go back and think about my first semester of internship I remember how difficult it was to open up to different people and build rapport with them. I remember being quite, nervous, and questioning my abilities in the Human Service career. Throughout my internship I have become more confident I am able to open up to people without being intimidated.

My Eagle Scout Service Project was constructing two “Buddy Benches” and gardens for the two elementary schools I attended. The concept of the “Buddy Bench” is to create a safe location for children that are being bullied or excluded; where they can make new friendships. The initial planning of the project resulted in researching and pricing possible materials, communication with the principals and scouts, and the realization that this project will change the school community. My community service project took dedication, managerial skills, and patience.
My first experience in the workforce has come from my job with Tim Hortons. Prior to starting I set goals for myself to pursue and achieve. The goals I set proved to help me improve myself in multiple ways. My main goals were to be an asset to my team, make connections, and continue to learn from my job. My hard-work, commitment, and responsible behaviour was recognized and I was promoted to Shift Supervisor after a year of working with Tim Hortons as a Team Member.
Running through the infected ship, I was crushing every enemy in my way. If I stopped running, then I would become one of them. I am a green super-soldier by the name of John-117 aka the Master Chief. Sometimes, when I wasn’t the Master Chief, I was the Arbiter. I was an alien that was betrayed by his alliance working alongside the Master Chief.
The person I interviewed was a close friend of the family, he has been around since I was a baby. His name is Larry Wade and he is a Civil Engineer in the Airforce. He has been in the Airforce since he was 20 years old and he is now 45 years old. This just shows you his loyalty and dedication he has to the Airforce, country and his family. He never thought that he would end up in the Airforce because of his struggles as a child.
How have things been lately? I’m sure things are a little different without me but I hope you’re doing well. I’m pleased to say that I’m going all right up until now, and I hope to stay healthy till the end of the war. What we were told about war was very untruthful.
I have always had the intense desire to care and look after people from a very young age. I firmly believe that everyone deserves the best quality of life possible and this is what had drawn me to occupational therapy as a career path in the first place. It is so easy to take for granted all the everyday tasks we can do and we seldom consider the effect of not being able to complete them. As an occupational therapist I would be able to make a positive impact on someone’s life and make it possible for them to enjoy their life. I want the opportunity to provide support to people, help them gain independence and watch them grow more confident in their own ability.
My first week proved to be very challenging. My favorite uncle was a veteran and I often visited him at the Missouri Veterans Home nursing center. He died several years ago, however, I remembered seeing many older veterans who did not have anyone to visit them. Many were very lonely and longed-for visitors. I had decided volunteering with the Veterans Administration Medical Center Jefferson Barracks Division would be something that I would really enjoy.
“A dream becomes a goal when action is taken toward its achievement” - Bo Bennett. When Bo said these words he had a mind set that everyone should have while working toward something in life. It is very difficult to work towards something if there isn’t a final goal in mind, people like to work for things this way they can see a “final product”. As we see these final products, it shows us a “thing” that we completed, it shows that we were actually working for something.
Social work is a profession that dedicates its efforts to ensure the well-being of individuals and the well-being of the society as a whole. The primary mission of social workers is to meet the fundamental needs of every person, especially the ones with special needs such as those who are oppressed, vulnerable and the people living in poverty. As a social worker, I intend to use these core values such as service, integrity, and dignity as guidelines to my work to make a difference in the lives of as many needy people as I can. My main goal will be to offer services to needy people to help them solve and overcome social problems that they encounter each day in their lives.
At this time of year, I begin to look back at my life after 12 hard years of schooling. Throughout the course of my life, there have been many ups and downs, but these up and downs is what made me who I am today. These influences have shaped my values, attitudes and beliefs towards life. There have been many important people and events that has impacted my life. One of which is family and the media.
A sense of accomplishment is invaluable to a person. Not only does a sense of accomplishment build confidence and faith in oneself, but it also allows one to reflect on how wonderful the journey to the accomplishment was, and how every little struggle and triumph was worth it. In the middle of summer, where time seems endless and the stress of the previous school year has been shed by students, I never expected to find out that I scored a five on both of the advanced placement exams I took. Nor did I have one-hundred percent confidence the goals we set as section leaders of the marching band would actually be met. Yet to my surprise, I had the good fortune of accomplishing challenging things in both aspects of my life.
