“LORENZO” My son Lorenzo is one of the most courageous people that I know. Everything that he has gone through and always has a smile on his face. Lorenzo was born on April 11, 1998 at 5:25pm. That morning started out like any other morning, Michael, my oldest was almost three and woke me up. I got up and made him breakfast. After that, I got in the shower. I began to feel pains in my stomach and they were coming about every five minutes. I called my mom and asked her if she could come over. When she got there, I was on the floor with Michael playing with his blocks. I told her that they were about four minutes apart. She got my bag, grabbed Michael, and said, “Let’s go to the hospital.” We got to the hospital around 1:30pm, and I was in so much pain. The nurse came in, hooked me up to the machines, and told me that I dilated to 4cm. Around 4:30pm my doctor came in to check on me, he yelled, “Get me the ultrasound machine in here STAT!” He told me that I dilated to 10cm but the baby was breech and he could not turn him. He was not rolling over or even attempting to and when I spoke or there was a loud noise he did not react. I took him to his doctor and he sent us to a couple of specialist that ran a bunch of tests. Once all the results were in, they had me come in for the results. He explained to me that he saw a decrease in white matter on one side of his brain and that he had moderate hearing loss. He then sent us to a genetics doctor that also ran a bunch of tests on Lorenzo and me. Once those results were in, they told me that he had a chromosome abnormality.
