From the outside I looked calm. However, on the inside, excitement filled my body. I reflected on the countless number of hours on a trampoline during my childhood. The woven bed stretched inside the heavy metal frame provided me my source of entertainment, my source of creativity, and my source of freedom. The trampoline allowed me to escape the boundaries set by gravity. For my 16th birthday my friend and I made the trip to Sky Zone, an indoor playground filled with trampolines from wall to wall. After signing the waiver, I ventured my way out into the free jump section. Swinging my arms in rhythm with my bounce, I began to build momentum. The strength I had built for basketball and high jump had now increased ten-fold. I not only jumped into the air, I soared. Under each landing my legs contracted, similar to cannons loading for another shot. When the trampoline began to thrust me upward, I forced my legs down, which blasted me towards the sky. Upon reaching the top of my jump, weightlessness overcame me. Escaping gravity allowed me to escape my thoughts that overwhelmed and plagued me with pain and struggles.
