In the summer of 2012, my mom, aunt, sisters, and I went to Kenya for my uncle’s wedding that my little sister and I were in. the trip was amazing. we did several things in Kenya. We got to see our grandparents, meet our cousins, prepare for the wedding, shop, and visit where my mom grew up. While we were in Kenya we went to the country and stayed there for a couple days which was a great experience.
The problems all started when we were at the airport to go home. As we were going though security, they weren’t letting my older sister through they told us that her passport was expired. The mistake we made was that in the United States, the passport read 08/12/13, but in Kenya they read dates (yyyy/mm/dd) so it read that it expired in 2008. I was devastated. She was stuck, and our flight was about to depart. My mom decided that she would stay in Kenya, and we would leave for New York with my aunt. The goodbyes were the worst part because there was a chance we wouldn’t see each other for a while. We were crying and couldn’t let go of each other. Thankfully, they even had the plane wait for us. This trip to the United States was the worse I didn’t eat for the whole 18-hour flight and layover in Turkey. When we got to New York, my dad was waiting for us.

I was so excited and ready to see my sister again. The day finally came when it was time to pick my mom and sister up. When I saw her I gave her the biggest hug. It wasn’t until then that I realized how much I took my sister for granted and that I should appreciate her more. After that experience I realized that I don t know what I would do if I didn’t have my older sister with me. Though we don’t get along and fight a lot, this experience taught me to never take for granted the things you have and be thankful of all the blessings you’ve been given, such as siblings and
