Flashback to my junior year. I sat quietly in my AP Lang class as my teacher, Mrs. Fisher, announced that the reading competition between the language arts classes called for the book count for September. She stood at the board, marker in hand, staring out expectantly at her large class. Hands shot up across the classroom, and my own nervous hand rose up to join them. Mrs. Fisher happily chalked up the small fortune of books that our class had read.
Having my high school at the AP program established under SCNU was always one of my luckiest things happened to me. At here, I was trained to be priorly familiar with the U.S. education system and successful after coming to the U.S. where all the students were supposed to go. In order to be prepared, I was trained to write different kinds of essays, including laboratory report, social science research paper and literature expository writing. I have started to write all these kinds of essays since grade 10, and every writing assignment has gone through the process of outlining, drafting, peer proofreading and editing. At college, my writing style hasn’t really changed, yet, the way I write an essay has changed.
Writing process People think the writing process is the hardest part of writing a paper. I would have to agree absolutely with them. There is so much to the writing process that it all get confusing. You have to make sure you have your commas and all your punctuations marks in the right spot.
When I was three years old my mother decided it would be best for us to move to America so we could have better and safer lives. Before I started school, I was sheltered from American culture. I could barely speak English, I only knew hispanic songs, and I only ate “Mexican food.” By the time school started, I felt like an outsider, everyone was speaking in a foreign language and eating odd foods, I felt out of place. It wasn’t until third grade when I began to feel like I was part of my classmates.
As a writer I would give myself a 5 out of 10 because writing is not one of my strengths at all even though I try my hardest. English is my second language so for the majority of my high school career I was in ESL classes instead of regular English I, English II, or English III classes. It was not until my senior year that I got into a regular English IV class. Senior year in high school was the first time I was in a regular english class. It was quite challenge
Writing has allowed me to find what it is I am truly passionate about. All my life I have wanted to leave a mark in different aspects of society. This varies from environmental issues to everyday sports injuries as a physical therapist and healthy dieting as a dietitian. Writing allows me to show and explain to others that no one has to follow the path of what is considered “normal.” In today’s society there is no end to any situation or idea.
Exit Essay Before fall semester started my writing skill were not the best as my high school was not as strict in writing structure. The way I write has gotten sloppy and careless but I saw some improvement this fall semester In semester in English 1301, I have relearn grammar and sentence structure.
My feelings toward writing aren 't good nor bad. Writing is something i have had difficulty with in my past. I have no problem brainstorming ideas on what topics to write my assignments on, even if i am given a prompt, but I do have difficulty with sitting down and planning my work. I always find myself getting stuck. So I almost never take the time out to plan out my ideas i come up with.

An inevitable part of growing is constantly learning and experiencing new things. After a certain period of time, we come to that point that we become able to think about everything we have learned until now in a completely independent way. This point is maybe one of the most difficult ones, since it deeply reaches our conscience. It also requires a lot of sacrifice from us to let the wrong opinions and ideas be replaced with the logical and reasonable ones.
In putting together my portfolio, I could definitely see that I have made an incredible progress from the foundation of this class. My practice of grammar, words and the general structure of my papers has improved massively. Reflecting on my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, as well as things I have learned in my own writing process is a big accomplishment.
Pain can be so intense it supersedes visual metaphor. White hot bursts; spiky gold flashes like lightning; steady red thumps, these familiar descriptions fail to compare to the screaming that your body makes as it starts to realize how much of itself is missing or has been replaced by metal. Pain doesn’t need to breathe. Its screaming is incessant. On an exceptionally bad night I could hear stitches stretching, or the sound of my bones pushing their way through torn muscle to rejoin fractured ends; the screws in my body squeaked as they turned in the wood of my bones.
Most teenagers my age love to shop till they drop, but I am not like most teenagers. Instead, I consider myself a DIY or a do-it-yourself kind of person and I do not solely rely on commercialized products. Ever since I was young, I have enjoyed repurposing random items into newly created items. In third grade, I was obsessed with reconstructing paper into tiny creatures and objects-known as origami. I would spend hours trying to make intricate paper animals such as dinosaurs and cranes.
When I think of these last few summers I have many memories that I can still see quite vividly. These not only include the good times but the bad times as well, however they always say, “what 's a rainbow without a little rain?” Although there is a variety I can choose from only one clearly sticks out in my mind. The best experience I have had over the summer was taking a late night adventure to the Great Plains statue, located in Wichita, Kansas, with my cousin. It 's something so simple, yet it holds so much meaning. I believe that if you have not been to the Great Plains statue during the night time you have not truly had the full experience.
Reflective Portfolio Letter Dear, Members of the First Year Writing Assessment Committee, In my past years of writing I have seen myself develop into a well disciplined and patient writer. However, I have seen myself significantly improve and mature as a writer over the past few months more than I have in the past four years. I view writing as an open doorway full of ideas, feelings, and thoughts weaved together simply for creating a masterpiece. Before entering college English 1010, high school students are conditioned to write required papers and assignments without having the ability to “put you’re your own opinions and feelings in a paper.”
