It may seem odd to start off with such a specific point, but it’s true. Located in one of the more touristy sections of Old Town, the city’s first populated area, Casa de Reyes checks out for all the cliché Mexican restaurant necessities: servers dressed
When Timothy McVeigh made the decision to blow up the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, he knew how he would design the explosives so unique that the investigators knew they were designed by someone with military experience. McVeigh did not work alone on this project as Terry Nichols spent time in prison for aiding in the destruction. It is sad to note that an innocent mother was standing close to McVeigh when the bomb went off; thereby, killing her mother and children. There was nothing she could do as McVeigh had already lit the detonator.
Every night, 365 days a year the sun sets in Key West is a part of someone’s night. The light goes out, but the city is still awake. Everywhere in Key West there is either food, art, or someone showing off a cool talent. The hot humid days turn into cool humid nights. The stars and moon come out and dance to the music.
The community I grew up in central Texas celebrated my heritage, honored differences in culture, and fostered personal growth and self-discovery. My parents, with the strong work ethic they developed on their family’s farms in Ghana, encouraged my brother and me to work hard and find ways to use our skills to be of service to others, which wasn’t hard to do growing up in Austin with its many avenues to become involved and take care of the community, whether it was helping to direct families through the Trail of Lights at Zilker Park during the winter or raise money for educational programs for underprivileged kids in the area through working the concession stands at the University of Texas at Austin. It was this collaborative mindset that Austin
Growing up in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, I have been surrounded by ‘black success’ instead of just ‘success’ for the duration of my life. The blacks in my area are equally as successful, if not more accomplished than, the non-blacks, but we are always titled separately and put into a captive box. The box we are held in told young girls that they should aspire to be athletes, cosmetologists, or plain unemployed. The same box told young men that they could only be considered “somebody” if they were able to catch a ball well. These are occupations we would ‘best be suited for’; these are occupations that perpetuate the box.
When I Went To Florida I went to Florida after 4th grade in the summer. When we went to Florida, Jaxon my sisters, brother came with us. The night before we left he stayed at my house. When we left the next morning we left at 3:00 A.M. While we were on our way we both had to sit in the very back of the car because my sisters came with us. The ride there was not fun at all.
What’s the purpose of friendship? Unfortunately, I was forced to learn this the hard way when I attended the ‘Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars’ Summer Academy over the summer of my junior year. The experience at the academy was unlike any other, but the challenge to make new friends was the most intimidating there than anywhere else that I’ve visited, especially at my own school. Yet, my school holds many of the common and well known people, such as teachers, that I could lean on for mental support, while at the academy had everything but Franklin County. What I meant by ‘but Franklin County’, I am actually referring to the wide varieties of different ethnicities and educational backgrounds that imploded into one single summer
Time. 10:19 p.m. South Florida. The traffic light rests at red for an eternity, mocking me with its condescending gaze. I quickly turned my head both directions, not a car in sight for what it seemed to be miles.
I quickly got into the vehicle, my husband sensed my urgency and drove away. “You okay?” He asked me. I lit a cigarette and said “Yeah.” As tears leaked down my cheeks and smoke billowed around me and out the window. Heading down the freeway I see the “Leaving Oceanside, CA” sign and my chest tightens.
Personal Narrative Have You ever wanted to know what South Carolina is like? Well, Im going to tell you how it is down their. I was only 5 or 6 when i moved down there and we used live in dayton OH, but it took us about a week to decide if we wanted to move and pack up everything. At the time we had 3 dogs Trooper, Oatie, and Patches. I wanted oatie to go with us
In August of 2013, my dad moved to Florida. For the longest time, he kept me in the dark about the issues he had with his money. He still has never told me directly that he was in debt; the only reason I know is because I overheard my sister talking to her boyfriend about it. He moved to Florida to manage a warehouse for his nephew’s beauty company, JacoSpa. He was offered this job multiple times, but he could not bear the thought of leaving his family in a state across the country.
Being born and raised in Florida it was evident that I was going to experience some beautiful nature as a child. It never really occurred to me though how important nature is and how much of an affect it can have on a person. When I was younger my family used to travel down to the Florida Keys every summer to go fishing and snorkeling. I would look forward to this trip every summer because the drive down to the Keys enabled us to see all of Florida and that was always my favorite part. As I got into my teens though and started playing more sports my summers soon became filled with traveling around the state playing sports rather than fishing and snorkeling down in the keys.
My bags were completely packed for our upcoming trip to Charleston, South Carolina. I had been waiting for this seemingly perfect trip for the whole summer. When we arrived at our cabin, it was less than what we expected; much less. The private cottage was extremely outdated. When we first walked in, you could hear my mother shriek after she spotted a cockroach near the fireplace.
My story takes place in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A 21 year old girl, with long brunette hair with a lean tannish body to her is moving with her family to help her mom and her dad run a ranch. At the time her family was moving, Sophia was healing from a heartbreak. Her fiance and her have been engaged for year and a half. When the wedding day come around her fiance left her at the altar, and he left the country.
My Trip to Florida It was a cold winter night in Upstate New York. My mom and dad were enjoying a cup of coffee, my sisters were playing video games, and I was editing a few pictures on my computer. My mom brought up the idea of a vacation. She said” We haven’t been on a vacation for a long time”.
