In third grade I dreamed of being an athlete. Despite mildly severe scoliosis and very limited depth perception, I was going to have a Gatorade sponsorship in my adulthood. However, one fateful day in third grade, as the result of an unfortunate face plant in P.E. class resulting in the loss of my front teeth, I resolved to change my future area of expertise from the realm of athletics to a more academic concentration. I decided to start taking reading seriously. I memorized the Dewey Decimal System. I convinced the librarian to allow me to check out more than one book at once. I became curious about the stories on the pages and dove headfirst into the worlds created by the authors. My curiosity pushed me so far into the literary abyss until suddenly Harry was trying to win over an emotionally unstable Cho Chang in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. …show more content…
I soaked up the sharp wit of Lemony Snicket in A Series of Unfortunate Events and consequently developed a harsh sarcasm that has stuck with me ever since The Bad Beginning. Christopher John Frances Boone, with refreshing objectivity, taught me the value in having an earnest desire to do the right thing in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I learned that our actions, despite our intentions, deeply affect those around us in A Separate Peace. As I read and absorbed, the stories provoked self-reflective questions: Why can't I drink from the fountain of youth like Tuck Everlasting? Why can't I love people the way Gatsby loved Daisy? Why do the Pevensie children find adventure through a wardrobe on a rainy day while I am stuck watching rain hit the windows as my teacher drones on about the difference between sedimentary and igneous rocks? These thoughts bounced around relentlessly in my head, but I lacked both the confidence and eloquence to express my musings
College is known as a place where people go to continue their education from high school or complete a degree, find out more about themselves, and establish relationships that could last a lifetime. In Mark Haddon’s novel titled The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, the protagonist named Christopher Boone seems to have his whole future planned out. Christopher says, “I am going to go to university in another town… And then I will get a First Class Honors degree and I will become a scientist.” Students like Christopher have dreams similar to this, and they strive to be doctors and lawyers among other things in their adulthood.
Character is the thing that defines a person. What you will do, what you will say, how you interact with the world. Admittedly, all of us have character. But, the character of Christopher is a very interesting and a complex one. In times, it feels as if he is an alien compared to everyone else.

It wasn’t until 2013, the summer before I started high school, that I truly discovered how much literature can impact your life, views, and feelings. The novel the Glass castle by Jeannette Walls taught me about empathy, hard work, and family. The day my grandmother presented me with a little white book, titled the glass castle I had no interest in reading it. It was different than the books I usually read, it wasn’t a fiction book it was a memoir.
A theme in the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon is the theme of subjectivity. Haddon conveys the theme with views influenced based on personal perspective. The book is written from the perspective of Christopher, who’s condition allows him to view and perceive the world in a unique way. His uncommon perspective gives us insight on a viewpoint we may not have seen otherwise, and a different view in the solving of the mysteries. In certain chapters, instead of following the storyline, Christopher cuts off to explain his thoughts, feelings, or memories about a subject.
"It may sound strange, but champions are made champions by setbacks" (Bob Richards). This quote describes how struggling and setbacks can help a person become successful. This essay is about overcoming obstacles despite difficulty. An example of one of these obstacles is if someone injures their leg, it would be really hard for them to run. If they try really hard then their setback could just be a minor thing that made them want to succeed more.

To make my book trailer for my book “The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-time” by Mark Haddon, I made sure to first find a editing website that I can use to make the process easier for myself so my outcome would be the best it could be. My friend Gabi found this website called PowToons and she recommended it to me. This website fit what I was looking for perfectly, it was easy to edit and it helped guide to to make the whole trailer step by step. I used PowToons and started with writing down my plan which involved me finding key point in the story that would be important to put in the trailer. I jotted down the characters names and why each one was important to the book then I would take the information from each character and put them together in order to make the story base.

At USC Upstate all incoming freshman taking English 101 are reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. The main character, Christopher, is an autistic teenage boy. In order to understand why Christopher thinks and acts the way he does, and relate his actions to real life, all of the PREFACE events for this year revolve around autism. The event that I chose to attend was “Understanding the Behavior of Children with Autism” because I wanted to learn what causes the behavior of autistic children. The event was held in the CLC Ballroom, capable of holding a good amount of people.

Charles Darwin, recognized for his contribution to the science of evolution, once declared, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is most adaptable to change”. All species depend on their ability to adapt in order to evolve and keep in pace with the ever-changing planet. The ability to adapt is a critical trait necessary for both our personal and professional lives in order to ensure we continue to thrive in life and stay relevant. Nevertheless, change surrounds people in daily life; there is a choice to accept this and adjust to it.
