(Summer of 1879) As an African American wife who recently joined the western migration, along with my husband, I am optimistic about the opportunity we have to become landowners. Thanks to the new addition of the 13th amendment, my husband and I are considered lawful freedmen. We now have the right to live a lifestyle opposite of the suffering we endured back in the South.
The Mayflower Compact was probably composed by William Brewster, who had a university education, and was signed by nearly all the adult male colonists, including two of the indentured servants. The format of the Mayflower Compact is very similar to the written agreements used by the Pilgrims to establish their Separatist churches in England and Holland. Under these agreements the male adult members of each church decided how to worship God. They also elected their own ministers and other church officers. This pattern of church self-government served as a model for political self-government in the Mayflower Compact.
I am writing at the moment from Virginia and I hope all my family is able to read my experienced in the colonial era. Migrating from Europe was difficult but I am able to witness so far the liberty to worship God and people who worked to promote the church. There are ways to preserve the identity as Christians without any state rule that prohibits personal beliefs. People are able to purify their life in God without anyone feeling persecuted or suppress because of negative consequences one can experienced. There is also land and the benefits of it are cash crop and able to better economically.
Today’s event was a crucial part in communicating our distaste to how Great Britain is taxing us. I have a feeling that this will act as an importing stepping stone in the future of our colonial rights. After the Townshend Duties were dropped, except concerning tea, Great Britain has had the audacity to still try to warp our minds into buying from them. Although the Indian tea is cheaper and much more flavourful than the Dutch tea we have secretly been importing, we colonists have decided that there is no way we are buying anything that Britain has had to do with. Although I am weary from the excitement today, I can’t help but smile when I think of the clearly defiant message we sent the British.
Today was the day. We were finally going to do it. We were finally going to have enough money. My family have been so desperate. We need money because my father lost his job, so our parents bought me and my little sister, Annabelle, tickets with the only money we have to Italy so our grandmother can give us enough money to live in England.
Almost everyone in their life time has had a person that hid a secret to them as it happened to me and in the story “The Toughest Man”. In “The Toughest Man” by Victor Ciurte, Victor family or grandfather didn’t tell him about his grandfather health to not take the opportunity of him coming to the united states. After Victor had settled he called his parents to tell them how he was capable of living on his own. He called his parents but they didn’t answer so, he called his grandparents and his, mother answered the phone and told Victor that his grandfather passed away. After reading the story I remembered of the time that my parents hid a secret from my sister, brother, and I.
In the spring of 2012, I was informed that we were going to move. As a thirteen going on fourteen year old, the news was rather jarring. I was born and raised in that house, in that town, it was all I knew. We packed up our belongings and began the 678 mile journey to our new “home.” Moving from Hartland, Michigan to Durham, North Carolina was not only immense in distance, but in way of life.
What exactly is the hood? The hood is a slang term for the ghetto. Many people may associate the hood with the birthplace of criminals, people with no lives, and even what some people would call “gangsters”. From the outside looking in, one would assume the hood is a horrible place to be, and those were my exact thoughts in the beginning. Is the hood as dangerous as it is described?
The first eight years of my life, I spent in India where I was born. Growing up I was constantly reminded by my parents that I needed to make them proud by getting a good job and living a good lifestyle. They told me this because they did not want to see me live a hard life like they did. When I was nine years old, I moved from India to the United States of America. The reason why I moved to America was not because I was living a bad life in India, it was so that I could have a better education and more opportunities in life.
The winter before my 12th birthday, my parents decided that moving to Florida was a good idea, and although it 's a lovely state for tourism, Florida wasn 't the best place for a new start for us. My dad 's side of the family has lived in Pennsylvania for generations, so the move seemed to be a fresh start and an opportunity to settle down for good with nothing from the past interfering. Florida was supposedly cheaper, more child-friendly, and the perfect place for people to redeem themselves. Unfortunately, none of these tales held any truth because when we finally found an apartment, it was overpriced, dangerous, and filled with many others with the same idea as us.
One day when I woke up I was getting ready to go to America. I was leaving with my Dad, Mom, Sister, and my Brother. My family and I are leaving leaving from Germany and going to America. We are going to bring clothes such as shirts, pants, underwear, socks, shoes, and hats. We will also bring soap, food, and other stuff like that to survive in America.
This caused her stepfather’s company, Vanover Oil, to relocate them to Houston by plane and bus. Her family did not have a particularly tough time getting to the U.S. For the reason that they did not have to come illegally or unreasonably.
Although not every move was easy, I soon started enjoying it and looked forward to learning something new about a different place. Therefore, when my father informed me that we were going to relocate to USA, I was on top of the moon. I looked forward to a new environment and new experiences. Despite all the different moves, I found my relocation to Maryland one of the hardest. I soon realized that the schooling was very different and people even talked differently.
We were woken up early the moon was in the middle of the night 's sky the winter 's air was crisp. All was still all was well except us creeping through the streets of our town. We wanted to be at the docks before anyone else, we were done with the poverty world war one had brought with it. We arrived at the docks with hope and in abundance in our eyes, But were met with realization everyone was already at the dock. The smell was putrid,and we were met with many haggard faces we also were in third class to top it all off.
