We travelled with these strange men that are covered with strange garments with the only parts that show are their faces which are white as the washed stone. Some of them have hair and long beards that is the color of the sun. They are able to heal and bring death to our people as they decide. We dare not make them angry lest they should punish our people. As we travelled to the flat lands beyond the mountains we were met by the peoples of the plains. These were friends of our peoples and they brought us many good gifts of food other provisions. At times we had so much that we were unable to carry it all and as is our custom, we took what we could carry and left the rest. The strange men did not understand the ways of our people and even suggested that our friends should take back what we were unable to use. We sent two women – one of our people and one of the others – to go ahead and let them know of the visitors that they would soon have. After five sunsets, the women had not returned and the strangers began to worry about this and to demand that we take them the way that the women had travelled. We told them many times that the women had most likely not met any others yet, and so had not returned to us. They demanded that we take them and would not heed our appeals. We tried our best to reason with them and to keep from heading into the territory of our enemies. The strangers became very angry with us and even took their sleeping mats away from us and slept in a nearby grassy area. There were many among our people who became frightened at this show of anger from the strangers and followed the strangers and continued to beg throughout the night.
