There was still some daylight so the four received melee training. I showed them my weapon of choice and how I employed it using Bob as a zombie. The sternum thrust used to tip a zombie over was demonstrated. Another move I liked was to duck under the arms and place my ax between the ankles as I circled to trip them. My signature move was to circle quickly and swing for the temple as the zed turned after me. As a last resort a blade could be thrust up under the chin penetrating the soft palate to pierce the brain. I highly recommended eye and mouth protection for dealing with the dead face to face. The group retired to the porch where we related our adventures. The necessity of shooting the humans who had attacked the upper farm. Shooting the horde that had come through our area. The cause of death of each of the members that we had lost. The dead folks we had found in a lot of the houses. The details of gathering food and supplies as we preferred to do it. The other survivors that we had run across and the murders of our neighbors. How busy we would be as the harvest approached and what remained to be done to get through the coming winter. As usual Ted and Yuri were in the barn. No decision had been made at the newcomers meeting the evening before and he hadn’t heard from Willie Dixon or Mel. I let him know about the two requests I had to stay at the lower farm and the one family that was definitely leaving. I made sure he knew they asked me and were supposed to talk with the Dixons. We kicked around plans for the day and decided to cut wood to be hauled to the Dixon farm if they picked one
