Personal Information I am a student attending Miami-Dade college and I’m taking education courses. When it comes to being a teacher I have always wanted to be one. When I was, younger I would always babysit my cousins and I loved taking care of them. When we came back home from school I would sit my cousins down at the table and we would do our homework together. If they every needed help I would explain to them systematically how to do the problem. I would go over it until they started understanding how to do it by themselves. In my family, I have a couple of uncles that are teachers and they thoroughly enjoy working with the students and attending class. The philosophies that I tend to agree the most with includes humanism which lets children control their own destiny and it also believes that there is an unlimited potential for growth. A psychologist that founded this approach is Abraham Maslow. He alleged that experiencing was one of the best ways that one can learn. He believed that we should think more positive about the way we thought about people. Another philosophy I agree with is cognitivism which students learn by experiencing as well. Jean Piaget said that students can’t just be given information they need to be able to make it into their own so they can learn more efficiently. There are philosophies that I don’t totally agree with like the essentialism, which William Bagley founded, which derives from the idea that the children need to be disciplined, hardworking, and have respect. I do believe that some of these things are necessary but they could be done in a way where we focus more on what the student needs and how they learn rather than the teachers. I don’t believe that having a quiet and calm classroom would be beneficial to a student but preferably having a stimulating classroom would help students gather characteristic they could be proud
