The author of “The Effort Effect” Marina Krokovsky discusses success as an achievable milestone that is possible regardless of natural ability. Krokovsky compares the growth and fixed mindset to demonstrate how success is attainable regardless of how talented someone is. The growth mindset includes persisting during setbacks, embracing every challenge, and learning during the criticism given by others. The fixed mindset includes avoiding challenges, giving up easily, and feeling threatened by the success of others. In my personal education experience, I have found that using a growth mindset can help overcome any self limiting belief. During my high school years, I did the bare minimum to get by. In my spare time, I began to do research on studying tips and what were the habits of highly successful achievers in college. It did not take long to realize that the most outstanding students fall in love with the process of learning. At its core, that is what the growth mindset is all about. Putting in maximum effort and utilizing every opportunity to learn something new. Before college, I believed that some people were just born smarter than others. I viewed my peers that were selected to be in more challenging classes as being born with a better sense of understanding. An individual's ability to be prosperous in school has little to do with their natural intelligence. A large factor in how successful that person will be is how much energy they are willing to put in to succeed. This point is continuously highlighted in “The Effort Effect”.
