I was five years old when I had my first piano lesson, and I added cello lessons when I was eight. Over the last twelve years, music has played an essential role in my life, shaping me into the man that I am today. Other personal interests have changed over time, but my love of music has always remained constant. Something about the beauty of expressing oneself through song appeals to me, and I am fascinated by the intricacies of music theory. Although it requires incredible amounts of dedication, the benefits of studying music have contributed greatly to my personal and intellectual growth. Each period of my music career has contributed to my personal and intellectual growth in a significant way. My first experiences with piano exposed me to the wonders of music theory, the perfect bridge between my analytical and creative interests. As my understanding of music theory has grown, I have realized that expression and logic are not isolated from one another. This discovery was groundbreaking because both the arts and the sciences intrigue me. The ability to think analytically and present my findings in a creative manner is the most important gift that music has given me. Once I began practicing both piano and cello regularly, my grasp of music grew dramatically. The piano’s linear nature and the cello’s expressive timbre allowed for the perfect combination of theory and musicality, accelerating my musical ability to new heights.
