Personal Statement Essay Engineering is the branch of science and technology concerned with design, building, and use of engines, machines, and structures. I have always had an interest in the way things work, and since I was young, science and mathematics have been my favorite subjects. My interest is science and mathematics, particularly Physics, has blossomed throughout my school live. I also enjoy the challenge of solving everyday problems with scientific and mathematical ideas. Last year I participated in an internship at Lockheed Martin within the fabrication department, where I worked with the: Structural, electrical, and composites departments. During the first six months at Lockheed Martin I received certificates for over three hundred hours of aircraft structures, electrical, and composites. Not only did I receive my general certificates, I was the first Intern to receive an award of excellence and was asked to return for another six months to work on advanced structures, electrical, and composite repairs. During the second portion of my internship I built an F-35 panel which I utilized all three of the departments in fabrication to build, I was also the first ever intern to complete this project. During this internship I learned several very important skills, such as: time management skills due to the fact that we only had so long on each project, so I was always self driven to complete my tasks because it was on me to complete my work in a timely manner; I also learned how to work better in a team or as a team member because if any of the inters or myself had a problem with one of the projects we would ultimately work together to try and solve our problem before we would ask our …show more content…

I constantly had to prove myself and was always told that I should not come back, because I do not belong there. I worked hard and stood up for what I believed in, and what I wanted to do so I kept working and did not let people’s opinions shape my life. In the first season I received fifth place in the championship, which in retrospect is not that bad for a thirteen year old. Right after the season was over I got into a racing accident, I shattered my left leg in the door and had a few other bumps and bruises that resulted in many surgeries, learning how to walk again, and years of physical therapy. I contemplated quitting and just finding a new hobby, but I knew I could not just quit because I had one bad experience. I decided to go back as soon as I was cleared, but in the mean time I decided to build a new car that was better then my car before. I was finally able to get back out on the track for the two thousand thirteen season, which after a long hardship ended up being extremely successful. I won the
