Growing up I had all sorts of crazy ideas of what I wanted to do in life, but I never imagined that I would be applying to pharmacy school one day. Pharmacy was never on my radar until a family friend introduced it to me. The more I researched pharmacy and talked to my family about it, the more I realized what an amazing career it is. My senior year of high school I job shadowed at a small inpatient pharmacy where I saw how they made IV’s, prepared patient prescription, and focused on drug interactions. I was intrigued immediately once I discovered how much more to pharmacy there was than what I saw from the costumer side of the counter at my local community pharmacy. Pharmacy has everything I want in a career such as, people interaction, leadership opportunities, and continual learning.

Even at an entry level pharmacy job, the pharmacist are leaders to technicians and patients. There is also room for growth leading to management and industry related careers. This past summer I was very privileged to go to St. Louis for a three day leadership development seminar with Phi Delta Chi. As part of the preparation I took a strength finders test where I learned that my greatest strength as a leader is being a motivator. Our advisors lead us through activities to such as group discussion, role playing, and observation to understand how we can be an effective leader. As a motivator it is easy for me to encourage my peers and colleagues to reach their goals and pass expectations. I can also project by positivity on patients who might be feeling overwhelmed by new prescriptions. I know that my educational and extracurricular back ground has transformed me into to an exceptional
