Rita Pierson said, “Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.” Aspiring teachers usually tell similar stories of teachers who had encouraged, motivated, and inspired them. My story does not begin there. It begins with a teacher who made an impression on me in all of the wrong ways. My fourth grade year in a new school was disastrous. Sadly, my teacher made the experience much worse for me. Thankfully, when I reached the fifth grade, my fifth grade teacher was exceptional, and she made an incredible difference. Thus, I understand the tremendous impact that a great teacher can have versus a poor one. I am the best candidate for this program because I am committed to making a positive difference in the lives of students; I am dedicated to improving the way students learn; and I possess professional experience that will help me further my career. …show more content…

I desire to reach every student that walks through the halls of my school. While this may seem like an unattainable goal, I have seen it accomplished, and I plan to do the same. Every school contains a wide range of diversity. This is an opportunity to reach students that may have been deemed unreachable. Diversity contributes to each student’s learning style. As a teacher, I will consider diversity as an enhancer, rather than an inhibitor. This is a pathway in which a teacher can equip students with the determination and confidence they need to be successful. I will always set high expectations and provide equitable learning opportunities for all students despite any
