Since I was a little girl I wanted to be a dentist. I had always changed my mind of what I wanted to be because everything was interesting to me. By the time I was 13, 1 confirmed that I wanted to be a dentist because my cousin was studying to become a dentist and she used to teach me everything she knew and it was really interesting to me. To get there I would have to get my bachelor’s degree in either chemistry or in business. To get into a dental school they do not require any specific degree. What they do require is that I take two semesters of biology with lab, general chemistry with lab, organic chemistry with lab, and physics with lab. Dental schools prefer people who maintain a high GPA while taking harder classes. They also want people who have leadership, health-related work and research, and community service experience. Not only do I have to have all those requirements but I also have to take the Dental Admission Test during my junior year. If I pass the test and I get accepted into a dental, I can finish my bachelor’s degree while I attend a dental school. The first two years of dental school are classroom-based. They cover physiology, anatomy, microbiology, radiology, dental techniques, pharmacology, and practice management. The third- and fourth-year is all about rotating through clinics in surgery, restorative dentistry, pediatric dentistry, and much more. To become a licensed dentist, I would have to graduate from a CODA- accredited training program, take the National Board Dental Examinations, and pass practical examination covering clinical skills. Once I graduate from dental school I have to go to either go to an orthodontics graduate program or an oral surgeon graduate program. To graduate from one of those programs I would have to take another exam, if I pass the test then I would be certified as either an orthodontist or an oral
