To me, college is about new experiences—new places, new people, and new cultures. Throughout my life, I have been driven to expand my horizons academically and socially. Attending college on the mainland and studying abroad will further challenge and broaden my views in the classroom and real world. Also, I will have the ability to develop my strengths and knowledge necessary for a career in marketing. In college, I want to continue to strengthen my ability to think critically and use creativity to solve problems. In addition, college will provide me with connections, such as internships, to extend my education beyond the classroom and engage in the real-world, dynamic business field. Students from many different backgrounds with different ideals come together to learn. My peers can challenge my views with their ideas in the classroom. I have to be open to input and be able to work as part of a team to be successful. Leaving home and learning new ideas from new people is essential. The marketplace is not just local or national, it is global. I was born and raised in Hawaii. Therefore, attending college on the mainland and studying in other countries can be an invaluable part of my education. My skills in marketing would continue to develop with more new ideas. Out of the classroom, I can learn about the different cultures and ways of life in the new place I am studying. I first found interest in marketing because I believe I possess strengths that are essential to succeed in that career. Marketing deals with the promotion and selling of a product. In order to promote a product, the business must know who their customer is. I am fascinated by the psychology behind the consumer. Why does one buy a specific product? What can be done to influence them? To answer these questions, a marketer must be a problem solver. I am motivated by problems. Instead of seeing problems as dead ends, I see them as opportunities to create value. I can use my creativity and attention to detail to capture the attention of and persuade the consumer to purchase the product through a marketing
