Personal Statement

I want to participate in the SUPRE undergraduate fellowship for many reasons. First, I really enjoy working in a research lab. In my first-year of college, I have been given the amazing opportunity to volunteer in a research lab. For the last semester I have been transcribing recordings of group interviews and volunteering with children under the age of three. While this has been an enriching opportunity, I want to explore more into the field of psychology. SUPRE would give me the chance to explore another area of psychology and gain more experience in research. Secondly, this fellowship will challenge me greatly. Working for eight weeks straight on a research project will be the greatest challenge I will face in psychology so far. It will force me to dive completely into research and focus all of my attention on it.

Another reason I want to participate is because I value the importance of education and work-based learning. In high school, I gained 37 dual credit hours to get ahead in school and prepare me for college. Education has always been a very important value to me. As a first-year college student, my professional experience extends to working at a local restaurant throughout high school and the research lab I have been in for the last semester. The SUPRE fellowship will allow me to gain a lot of professional experience, such as interacting with coworkers in the psychological field and learning the ropes of how research is being conducted. Being able to participate in the SUPRE undergraduate fellowship will allow me to further my research experience and gain amazing research
