Ever since I was little I have wanted to become a nurse. I think that nurses are the backbone to the healthcare system, without nurse’s doctors wouldn’t be able to do their job. Nurses do a little bit of everything, from taking vitals to recording and treating symptoms. There has been a high demand for nurses lately that will likely keep growing. By becoming a nurse there will always be an abundance of job opportunities. Nurses have lots of duties and range when it comes to their scope of practice. Nurses have to administer medication to their patients as well as continually monitoring them. Nurses also consult with doctors on the patient’s course of treatment as well as the family involved. In hospitals nurses can change dressing, administer medication, and help with emergencies. In clinics nurses check patient’s vitals, height, and weight. They also get the details of the injury as well as help the doctor asses and get tests that need to be performed. There are also types of nurses that travel to their patient’s home to give care. This kind of situation generally happens when the patient is placed on hospice care and cannot leave their home. Nurses will provide catheter care, feeding tubes, wound changes, and whatever is involved with keeping the patient comfortable. To be a nurse I believe there are certain qualities involved. Nurses need to have critical thinking, as well as being good at problem solving. Nurses need to be quick on their feet and prepared for anything especially while working in high stress areas. They also need to be compassionate and good with people, towards their patient as well as the patient’s
