The Ghanaian Healthcare workers and nurses truly inspired me. I am an extremely shy and reserved person when I am thrown into unknown settings, but they made me feel so comfortable. Their enthusiasm and dedication to wanting to get me to learn made everything come so naturally and easily to me. The clinics in the villages especially helped me open up. I observed what was going on as much as I could, learned my assigned job, and quickly got to work. The nurses were so patient and kind. No questions were off limits and it was such a hands on experience that I believe I learned an immense amount. From my observations and charting I was able to learn the proper methods for giving immunizations, care techniques, how to address patients, how to record information, and also how to assess patients. I have learned that every situation needs to be looked at with a fresh pair of eyes, there is no definite way to get a successful result when it comes to nursing and healthcare. Each patient has his or her own individual needs and as a healthcare provider, I need to take that into account when making decisions. The Ghanians have shown me that there are alternative methods to getting a successful solution. I have learned that I not only need to look at each situation and patient individually, but I also need to enjoy each moment and experience given to me. The Ghanaian health care providers have such a relaxed and calm manner, they do not panic in the face of adversity. This demeanor is both positive for the healthcare provider and the patient because it puts them at ease. Not only are ghanaians positive forces in the healthcare field, but also in everyday life. They have shown me the importance of a smile or a wave. These friendly gestures do not seem like much, especially in America, but in Ghana they are the gateway to a brand new
