College Education Should be Free
Free college education has been a very relevant topic recently. A topic that has people wondering if they will ever be able to afford an education after graduating highschool; an education which will set them up for a successful life to which will help them become stable and debt free for years to come. Doesn’t that sound nice? A life full of education and success all debt free. After looking at both sides I have come to the conclusion that college education should be free just like elementary, middle and high school.

Yes you will have to pay more on taxes but say you graduate college debt free, you have an incredible educational career, and because of this you acquire an outstanding job that makes up for all of those tax dollars. America should be next. New Mexico has been one of the more recent countries that has agreed to making college free. As universities across the United States face steep enrollment declines, New Mexico’s government is embarking on a pioneering experiment to fight that trend: tuition-free higher education for all state residents (“Holtermann, Callie”). The United States is having a hard time getting free college tuition to stick. President Joe Biden had a plan for free universal community college but failed to gain traction in congress. New Mexico, one of the nation’s poorest states, has emerged with perhaps the most ambitious plans as states scramble to come up with their own initiatives. The push for tuition-free higher education comes amid a broader enrollment crisis in the United States. Total undergraduate enrollment fell by 6.6 percent from 2019 to 2021, according to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center (“Holtermann, Callie”).
