I am Densia Wray, a sophomore at City College majoring in Political Science and possibly Public Relations or minoring in Journalism. My decision to pursue these majors came after thoroughly enjoying my Intro to Media Communications and Intro to Political Science classes, as well as my desire to create local and societal change. Although it took a while for me to make this decision, once I started listening to what I really wanted and not what I thought was wanted from me I realized what I really want to do with my life. Athletic Trainer I always wanted to become an Athletic trainer as I was growing up. I never really knew too much about it, but when I started doing my research on being an Athletic trainer, I actually knew more than I thought. Being an Athletic trainer I wanted to learn more information about it. I wanted to find out how much the salary would be and also if they were really needed. By using the MS Choices program, the Internet and a personal interview I discovered the meaning and interesting facts about being an Athletic trainer.
In the eighteen years of my life, I have done many things to achieve my goals. Though my objective tends to change in detail, it does not budge from the whole. With only being one year away, it is important that I begin to make choices on what I want to do after I graduate high school. I have been organizing a serious amount of information on the certain career fields that I’m interested in.
Twenty years from now I want to be known for having made a difference in my community, in Sylmar. I want to provide students with more resources, so that those with my similar background can have an opportunity to attend university. I want students to be prepared for university and to know that they are capable of being successful in fields like medicine. I want to be that remodel that lets them know that if I could achieve my dreams of becoming a doctor, so could they. I want my story to be known that I struggled in believing in myself, but due to that experience I was motivated to become a guide for students who also lack confidence in what they can achieve.
Taking into consideration that my lifetime goals may not be easy to accomplish, I have learned that I cannot reach the top without even trying. I acknowledge the fact that I need to work hard and take any necessary measurements that will help me achieve my goals. Before I even got involved in any activities, I had to first know where I want to be. I have set myself long-term goals that will eventually lead to the development of my lifetime goals, becoming a Family Medicine Physician in the Air Force and aiding those whom serve the country.
College is the path that allows people to take education further and explore depth into their interests. Majority of the people says that college will take you further in life and will enable you to make more money but I think it’s much more than that. College in my opinion introduces you to the real world, widens your perspective on the world and people, and offers opportunities that will allow you to grow. I want to go to college not just to learn but to also experience the vast world.
Living in hope, with our beliefs, and with little expectation of others is the way forward. My parents, simple and honest human beings, have high expectations of me, wishing that I too, like them, grew up to be an honorable person. Martin Luther King’s life inspires the determined and I agree that to give up on life or stop is deplorable. Irrespective of the hurdles, to push ahead with all one’s might is the only way to succeed. Living this philosophy, my father, a genuine rags to riches story, altered my life, leading by example and encouraging me to follow the path of righteousness.
Reflection What was the most life changing event through your high school career? Similarly, through our high school careers we have many episodes that change our life and our perspective we have towards it. I believe my senior project has been one of those episodes in my highschool career, it has changed my perspective in life after high school dramatically. To truly understand my Senior project and the learning I experienced, the following questions must be answered; How did I apply each of the following career learning standards in my project?
When I graduate high school, I plan on having future goals that I plan on achieving. My first goal is to go to college and get a degree. I plan on attending Purdue NorthWest majoring in engineering and minoring in business. This is my number one future goal that I need to accomplish because to be able to have a nice life, I need to go to college to support my future family. My next future goal would be get a starting job to be able to support my future family.
