In the medical field, there are many people whom play an important role, such as administrative staff, doctors, nurses, physician assistants, surgeons and technicians. Without all of these essential people, medical care would not be efficient as it is today. Nurses are an essential part of the medical team. There are not enough nurses to take care of the population. Some individuals become nurses to have job security and think it is an easy career. I think nursing should be a calling. Nurses work long hours, handle all the paperwork and are constantly on their feet. Nurses are required to have specific qualities like empathy and compassion, excellent communication and organizational skills. With the of nurses in demand, the educational requirements have increased as well. I think it is important to have a personal experience in the medical field as well as hands on experience with the nursing stimulation mannequins and peers. A good foundation of anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and pathophysiology will help me excel in the upper level classes. As the curriculum increases in difficulty, nurses are required to differentiate between the patient’s signs and symptoms. It is important know that not all patients are the same. Many patients respond to medications differently. Going to the hospital was always a new adventure. When I was in elementary school, I had a streptococcal infection that eventually spread into a bone infection. During the week-long stay, I was able to observe the way the doctors and nurses interact with me as the patient and my family. I noticed how the nurses took care of all the day to day medical issues, checked blood pressure and administered medication as well as communicated all of the information given to the doctors. I also took note of how the doctors were only in the room to diagnose for at most five minutes. This experience made me want to become a nurse in the medical field instead of a doctor. Many experiences like this one has helped shape me into who I am
