I am writing to apply to become a certified instructor for the UConn Early College Experience (the “UConn ECE”). My background and qualifications make me uniquely qualified to be a certified instructor for the UConn ECE as I have Masters Degrees (CAPITALIZATION???) in both education and Special Education and in addition to my high school teaching experience I also have twenty years’ experience teaching history at Hillyer College at the University of Hartford. I am passionate about history, which I believe is more about the study of historical developments and trends rather than the memorization of dates and facts. As a prospective member of the Masters of Arts in History program at Liberty University I hope to accomplish several things. I am currently serving as a high school history teacher and this program will benefit both my students and myself alike in the foreseeable future. This includes reaching the goals of earning my master’s degree which will result in a higher level of professional knowledge in my content area, while increasing my income simultaneously. This is not the only positive factor, Liberty’s program will also contribute directly to growth in regards to my relationship with Jesus Christ.
Going to UW-Superior is something that I have wanted for a long time. I can bring many new things to the community. I have travelled a bit, I enjoy helping the community and my professional pursuits will hopefully one day better the world. Whenever you travel you learn many new ideas. I have been an active member in multiple school extracurricular activities. Mu Alpha Theta is one of the clubs I part take in, and I have been a member for three years. In Mu Alpha Theta, I participate in inter-school test, practice math problems and attend math competition. Another club I participate in is National Honor Society. I have been a member in National Honor Society for eleventh and twelfth grade.
As a junior, I am currently enrolled in Pre-AP Pre-Calculus for my math course. For my science course junior year, I am enrolled in Pre-AP Biology. I plan on taking AP Calculus and AP Biology my senior year of high school. I like to be involved in various clubs, activity, etc. It gets me moving up and about on my feet. Also, I can time manage all the clubs that I am in, the activities outside of school, the school itself carefully and very efficient. I feel as if I am a good candidate for GCU for many reasons. Starting off with three personal strengths that I encompass that will help me be successful at GCU, and talking about my previous educational struggles, and plans for the future. I am looking for more than just academics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During my four years at Northwood High School, I became involved in numerous academic and extracurricular activities. As a result, I have been recognized and honored for achievements both inside and outside of school. I realize that titles and academic achievements are limited, but some of the impact I have on my community and other people’s lives is what really matters. There are many different things that can impact students in their high school years. Whether these things are friends, activities, or the sports they participate in they all impact the student. Many opportunities are presented to students in high school, although not many impacts the student beyond high school, I believe this opportunity will impact me forever. I would love to be a part of the Early College Program this coming spring. I believe the program will do nothing but help me grow and strive to be a better student and continue being involved.
Going forward a liberal arts education will be key for me to attain my goals. Specifically a Hollins liberal arts education. I am interested in pursuing pre-law, creative writing, art, and equine studies. At a typical technical based studies program I would be unable to study and learn what I 'm passionate about. It has been said that if you choose a job you love you will never have to work another day, and I fully intend to live my life with zeal doing what I love and am truly passionate about, and a liberal arts education will help me achieve that.
As a college freshmen, there is no doubt that I still have a long ways to go in order to achieve my academic goals. And through this journey, I know that I will encounter highs and lows just as I experienced in the past, most notability in high school. I keenly remember instances around this time where I doubted my abilities when subjects like math was proving to be difficult, even when I was trying to put in effort to stay on track. I was struggling in math because I did not try to identify my weaknesses, and never tried to come up with solutions to fix my problems. Rather, I chose to give up on math and settle with a grade barely passing.
