Dear Meredith, I am writing to express my interest in the Academic Coach (Math, K-8) position. In my twenty-three-year career with the School District of Philadelphia, my leadership experiences have demonstrated that I can excel at all the essential functions and have the requirements needed to fill the position. The position of Academic Coach requires many essential functions to be successful. The three I feel most important are supporting all stakeholders involved, complete understanding of the mathematical instruction curriculum and implementing change to make positive growth in and out of the classroom.
After my child-care leave, I used my Professional Diploma in counseling to work as a college advisor and counselor and was twice selected Counselor of the Year. Teaching has been an important aspect of my family. My son, David, is teaching English literature and writing on the campus of the City University. My daughter, Sharon, who is severely challenged, is surely the best teacher in our family.
I began my education at Stephen F. Austin State University, which was founded as a teacher’s college in 1923. That is why I chose SFASU because I wanted to teach children, plus I wanted to concentrate on teaching them to read. I received my B.S. in Elementary Education and Generic Special Education in 1985. I concentrated on working with the at-risk population and began my journey as an educator in January 1986. I quickly realized that I had a thirst for knowledge and set a goal to continue my education until one day I would receive my doctorate in education.
I became an educator to make an impact and open up children’s eyes to all possibilities that are out there. Teaching is an incredible profession. Each day is an opportunity to mold minds and stimulate creativity. When students achieve a simple or complex task, I feel it’s’ an experience for me to be a part of their success. I will continue to teach as a career.

Graduate School Personal Statement What is Education? Education "is a process of inviting truth and possibility, of encouraging and giving time to discovery” ("What is Education”). From birth until the day one dies, a person’s brain is constantly acquiring knowledge and increasing their cognitive load. Education has always played a significant role in my life. From graduating high school to obtaining a State Tested Nurse Aid certification, all the way to earning a bachelor's degree in Primary Pre-K-Grade 5/Pre-K-Grade 5 Intervention Specialist.
Education is one of the ever-growing and ever changing caveats to the structural systems of society. As an education professional one of the constants is the ability to know and understand your positions and beyond. It is the astounding duty of the practitioner to be constant in the inter developmental practices of a positions. I am in the elementary sector my current capacity reaches all children and teachers. Currently, I am an instructional coach at a present underperforming Title I school.
The career that I have chosen was a coach. Coaching is a hard job because if you are a bad coach and do not get anywhere with a program you could be fired. If you are a good coach with a good program, everyone is always looking for excellence so if that one time that something goes wrong, everyone is on your back like you could do this or this better and try to basically do your job for you. A career as a high school coach entails many duties, requires a bachelor’s degree, and requires time and dedication to develop an individual technique. The first thing we are going to talk about is that a good coach doesn’t have to be a good player when they played all they have to do is be able to have to love for the game and understand it.
I will soon hold a Bachelor degree in Communication Disorders and my studies have taught me how to communicate with individuals from all backgrounds, professions, and social classes. It taught me sympathy and understanding of human interaction. My long term goal is to work with school aged children and young adults as a speech-language pathologist. I have experience in interacting favorably and effectively with children of a wide range and enjoy doing so. I belong in an educational environment and would like to continue on to the school system and contribute to the success of school aged children and young adults.
After completing an undergraduate degree in English, Communications and Theatre, I decided to pursue a Masters degree in Teaching (MAT) from Northern Kentucky University. Upon completion, I began teaching high school where I taught classes such as English, Speech Communications and Theatre. I taught with a Rank 2 level for nearly 14 years before I decided I wanted to earn a Rank 1. Over those 14 years, I became highly interested in the Gifted and Talented Program at my school. As head of the Fine Arts Department, I was able to help our Gifted and Talented Coordinator develop many programs that benefitted the students labeled as gifted and/or talented in the arts.
The knowledge gained through my undergraduate degree in Childhood Studies; has equipped me with a solid foundation in the psychological, sociological and educational development of children. Through the course I learnt how to become an inclusive, versatile and well-rounded educator. As a result I was able to gain a 2:1 degree, which I hope will further demonstrate my academic ability to study at this level.
1. One of the most inspiring things in any athlete’s life is there coach. I know from personal experience. Every coach I’ve ever had has a had an impact on my life in a big way I want to become a coach because I love the game of football and I want to make a positive impact in the lives of my students and players.
