Graduate School Personal Statement What is Education? Education "is a process of inviting truth and possibility, of encouraging and giving time to discovery” ("What is Education”). From birth until the day one dies, a person’s brain is constantly acquiring knowledge and increasing their cognitive load. Education has always played a significant role in my life. From graduating high school to obtaining a State Tested Nurse Aid certification, all the way to earning a bachelor's degree in Primary Pre-K-Grade 5/Pre-K-Grade 5 Intervention Specialist. While working towards my Undergraduate degree, I spent many hours mentoring teachers and their role in the education system. The teachers who ignited my passion for this field were assertive and capable of advising. They lead their classroom, fellow teachers, and their administrative staff through several responsibilities. With the help of their abundant knowledge and critical thinking skills, they have been able to address a variety of problems and ultimately find solutions for all parties involved. Also, throughout student teaching, I saw how each student had different adverse childhood experiences and how these experiences have led to major trauma in their lives. It was truly an eye-opening experience. My classroom was filled with children who acted out in various ways. As a future teacher, I was scared to have my classroom because I was never introduced to such trauma, and I was not ready to handle such delicate conversations with students. But my mentor teacher was amazing, she changed the way I teach and the way I look at students'
