On a quest to save lives. My first step was a bachelor in social work and in sociology. Social work and sociology are human service fields. The profession of social works diligently with vulnerable people to help them better themselves. This field is not something you just wake up tomorrow and say you would like to study. Most people who come in the field have a heart for human service. This is one of the many reasons I chose the social work profession after undergrad. Shortly after graduate school I plan to become a Licensed Master Social Work, LMSW while preparing to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW. I am well aware that in the state of Georgia according to the Georgia Composite Code of Ethics Rule 135-10-.02 Without any License you cannot call yourself a Social Worker. In the state of Georgia, a Master’s Degree from a CSWE accredited school will allow you to apply for the LMSW and LCSW. The LCSW requires supervised hours and passing of a more comprehensive exam than the LMSW. The state of Georgia will consent graduates to have supervised practice while undergoing the process to become a licensed social worker. Once the graduate has proof of graduating they may apply to take the exam, this may be completed online. The application process is very time consuming as it requires many documents including a criminal background check and a notarized form. After submitting the application, the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) will permit the student to take the masters exam within a year. After a year has lapsed they will have to reapply.
