Through working as a community health worker and my internship I have foritied my strengths and weaknesses as a Social Worker. In my new positions I am able to see how my role in my clients lives and how it impacts them and their families, as well as social systems they interact with. I have receided positive feedback about my proforance from my clients and evaluated ways to build-up my strengths. Through critiquing my performance, I have complied an accurate account of my strengths and weaknesses. Once I make a connection with my clients they can see I am passionate about my field and absolutely love helping others. The compassion I show my clients allows them to feel the genuineness of my words. My determination is what sets me apart from previous workers, as I meet the client where they are in life to meet their goals to form healthy lifestyle changes. As I build on my knowledge I hope to continue to make these strengths even stronger.Areas where I could improve on are being more community engagement, being too friendly, being too punctual, and being impatient. Ideally, I would like to have an active role in community engagement to create the change I would like to see. It is only through community action organizing that the voice of the community is heard and steps to improve the current conditions can be initiated. Creating short term and long term goals to become more active in the community has helped me to make this weakness better. As a community haelth worker I receive referrals from Primary care providers who are concerned about clients who are high risk utilizers of their health care system. To elevate the cost and the impact of their care their daily contact person is myself. By providing them support and locating resources I have improved their health and educated them on appropriate protocols for sick and urgent care visit. Although, I love my role I wish I was able to do more. I am limited to what I can do and how much support I can offer. In my current position I am not able to do provide emotional support due to my current degree level. In order to adequately help individuals in a capacity that has less restraint regarding support it is essential to obtain a master in social work. I believe I am ready to pursue the next level to the social work profession as my client have become successful since I became their caseworker. Each day that goes by it becomes increasing harder to refer my clients to other individuals for behavioral health rather than sit down with my client and offer immediate support for their situation. I am no longer content with offering resources without offering emotional support as often times they go hand and hand.
