Reflecting on my personal journey, in discovering social work and determining social work as my career, I now recognize my innate qualities which guided my pathway. My earliest memory is being seven years old and earnestly searching for my patron saint for confirmation. I recall reading book after book of saints and the splendid moment when I located St. Martin De Porres. After reading his biography, I knew instantly he would be my patron saint. St. Martin De Porres is the patron saint of social justice, animals, orphans and those seeking interracial harmony.

I am overcoming this personal limitation by focusing on the pertinent information to properly inform the necessary party, without overwhelming them with unnecessary information. My previous experiences have shaped my goals to specialize in children and family therapy. Specifically, my internship and employment with Texas Department of Family and Protective Services exposed me to the consequence of generational abuse which is often seen to go untreated for years. There were multiple families, in which I tracked 40-50 years of abuse, locate symptomatology of ongoing abuse in the children’s lives that the Department had been unaware of and link the children and parents to therapeutic resources to address the trauma being endured by the family and children. My objective is to earn my Master of Social Work Degree and ultimately become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Upon becoming a Licensed Master Social Worker my goal is to therapeutically work with underprivileged, susceptible children and families of Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. The coastal bend area has few resources of licensed therapists to treat children and families suffering from sexual, physical abuse and mental health disorders.
