1. I decided to go into the field of social work because I have always loved assisting others. 2.I have been a social worker for two years. 3.I attended Indiana University Northwest and had a great experience there. Their social work program not only provided me with the educational component I need to be an effective social worker, but also a great internship experience. 4.I do not have any regrets about choosing social work as a career. 5. A few months after graduating from IUN, I was hired as a Family Support Specialist at Lake Ridge Head Start. 6.I am still employed at Lake Ridge Head Start as a Family Support Specialist/Medical Point Person. Parents come to me seeking resources/services for themselves or their children. After obtaining the necessary information they need and offering to provide support through this process many stop short of completing the process. 9.A case that I was excited about the outcome is one where a parent came to me and stated she was concerned about her child’s speech. She wanted to have her child evaluated to find out if they qualified for speech services. I provided the parent with support throughout the process. This parent advocated for their child and attended all necessary conferences. The child qualified for services and throughout the school year continued to make progress. 10. If I were queen one social policy I would change is the zero tolerance policy that is currently in place which has separated hundreds of immigrant children from their parents. As parents await prosecution their children are taken from them and sent to detention centers. I would have children stay with their parents as they are going through this
