My journey on how I chose Social Work as my profession has been long. I started to look into majors around my junior year in high school because I realized my goal of graduating high school and going to college was about to be accomplished. I was still lost on what profession I wanted to pursue so I began looking online for interesting careers. Anthropology was one career that caught my eye. I was basically convinced that, that was the career I wanted to pursue for about a year.

My senior year came around and I realized many spots were open in my school schedule that I had to fill up with electives. I took the initiative to try out an internship for education majors since it filled up the entire open gap I had on my school schedule. I worked with kids my whole senior year and it was one of the best decisions I took. I worked with kids from different grades to also Spanish speaking to English speaking. Teaching the kids and tutoring was entertaining, but it also made me realized that it wasn’t something I wanted as a career. Working with the kids was what I enjoyed not teaching them math and science. It was impressive how fast I could build trust with the children. I don’t know if it was something about me that would make them comfortable to take to me, or if it was simply because I could relate to them since I also grew up in the same environment. …show more content…

I spoke with one of my cousins that attended UTA about my problem and how I was starting to stress about my major. She guided me to Social Work as a possible option and even offered me to speak to one of her friends that was a Social Work major at UTA. I agreed speak to her and to sit in her social work classes. I learned many interesting things about social workers and her experiences with her
