Please describe any relevant leadership experience and/or employment history that has prepared you to become a Resident Assistant. Essay responses should be in paragraph form and you should fully articulate your leadership experience and how it has prepared you for the RA role. Having many leadership experiences and serving on multiple committees where working with students and administration is necessary, I believe that I am well prepared to become a Resident Assistant. These committees include my high school’s Discipline Committee, where I worked with administration to provide fair and rehabilitate punitive actions to students, along with the Duke Student Health Advisory Committee, where I work with other students to advise the Student Health office and to develop projects that benefit student health on campus. I became very close with one of the Resident Assistants on my floor because it just happened that we would always run into each other in the hallway whether it was 4pm or 2am. We would just sit in the corridor and talk for sometimes hours with other residents joining in on the conversation. While I’ve tried to connect with all of the RAs in the dorm, some just don’t spend a lot of time in our community which makes it hard for them to have a strong positive influence on the residents. If I become an RA I will lead my residents by example. One of my close friends from Pegram is also applying to be an RA and we are both very close with the RAs in Pegram who plan to return next year. I think that all of our very caring personalities paired with our qualities of holding people accountable for their actions has the potential of providing an amazing residential community next
