Personal Statement: Implementation Intention, Extrinsic Motivation

I goal that I have been trying to achieve for a while now is staying consistent with living a healthy lifestyle. I have tried countless times to eating healthy and exercising, but soon lose a sense of motivation. I’m deciding to utilize the techniques we learned in the class and put them into action to achieve my goal. I’ll be using Implementation Intention, Extrinsic Motivation, and Self-Efficacy to try new ways of attaining the results I want. Extrinsic Motivation is motivation to perform an activity because of the external goals toward which activity is directed. In regarding to creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, a extrinsic motivation would be me setting a goal weight. Having this goal will not only motivate me to continue working towards it, but it will give a way to measure my performance. I could set small weight goals so when I achieved them I could gain a sense of reward and encouragement to continue until I achieve the final goal. I think this could be a great start to my overall goal of having a healthy lifestyle. …show more content…

A problem I have had in the past in staying consistent with exercising. I have found exercising in the morning for me is more beneficial, however staying up late due schoolwork can sometimes alter my motivation to get up earlier. If I manage my time better through the day and stay on task, then I will be able to go to bed at a decent time and wake up earlier to exercise. Another issue I have is eating out and consuming less than healthy options. I’m not discipline enough to limit unhealthy food for a long period of time. If I carefully plan out meals for each day and slowly limit unhealthy options such as sweets and junk food, then I won’t have an excuse to eat out and make unhealthy
