Personal Statement: My Fitness Pal

The 2010 Dietary Guidelines goes along pretty well with my diet today. I still try to control my calorie and fat intake all while balancing the scale with my protein. This takes a lot of work and daily effort on my part but it's not nearly as hard as it has been in the past. I can remember being in my early 20's and keeping track of my food choices was quite the chore. I kept a spiral bound notebook with me where ever I went and wrote down everything. I mean everything. All the calories, fat, and protein all had to be looked up and logged by hand. Then, one fine day, technology God's smiled down on the smartphone and fitness world with a free app called My Fitness Pal. It has preloaded foods from every restaurant you could think of and all of the nutrient content. You tell the app how much weight you want to lose and how fast and it tells you how many calories you can eat and still safely lose weight. The app will also send reminders to log your food so that you keep on track as well as subtract the calories you may earn back from certain exercise activities. The best part is it's free.
This app has been the only way I have been able to successfully lose weight and keep it off. The app makes it easier to keep track of how much I eat. It's sometimes easy to forget when you snack a lot through the say like I do. I think these advances in technology, like most, are amazing and just another way to help us achieve our goals efficiently.

Someone dies, we eat. Someone is born, we eat. Someone gets married, we eat. Basically, any emotion what so ever can set into motion a hurricane of southern cooking that would make Paula Dean downright giddy. The point is, we eat because it's a culture not because we are truly hungry. I think Dr. Wansink is absolutely correct in his findings. I also believe that the mind plays all sorts of tricks on us. It stands to reason that the message of what the eyes see and send to the brain plays a role in releasing the hormone that tells the brain that you are full.
I also feel as if the power of suggestion is very strong. It's kind of like when someone yawns and then someone else in the room yawns. The very thought of yawing makes us want to yawn. I bet you are thinking of yawing right now. Well stop it, I promise I have a point. Hang in there with me for a moment. I think it works the same way with a diet. It must be a lifestyle change like Dr. Wansink and not just a regular diet. ONe must not feel like they are being rewarded with food and at the same time cannot feel as if they are being deprived of anything
