Sedekie Jabateh Petition for Reinstatement When I received my admission letter from Michigan State University, I started shivering as my palms were dripping sweat. The nervousness I had was extremely high, and my state of mind was like a brand new soccer ball getting kicked on the soccer field; as this letter will determine my future. My mother and I opened the letter together as we took a deep breath and hoped that this was nothing but great news. After a glance at the first word “Congratulations,” I couldn’t go farther since I couldn’t believe what I’ve just read, so I read it loud and clear repeatedly to get it clear and to hear myself say it. I didn’t learn the material the professor was teaching, and didn’t know the due dates for homework, quizzes, tests, etc. Since I didn’t know the most important materials that I was to use to further my knowledge and to improve my GPA, I started falling behind and couldn’t keep up with other students. Another personal choice I made that impacted my academic performance poorly was partying too much. I partied more than the average student. I used to party three times a week. This affected my grades poorly as I was tired in class from partying so much the day before. Sometimes I will fall asleep and wake up at the end of class. My final personal choice I made that impacted my grades poorly was not willing to find resources, even though we have one of the greatest libraries in the nation, I didn’t spend enough time to improve my test scores or quizzes. I could have differently made some personal decision to prevent recess. I knew my grades were going to drop very badly when I attended class late. What I should’ve done instead was to attend class every single day and 15 minutes prior to the regular time class starts, to make sure I have all my materials ready before the professor arrives and to grab the front row seat. This will improve my grades because I will be less distracted, talk less, and have hand written notes to study. I also plan to exclude myself from too much parties because I have a lot on my plate and these are first on my priority list, and are the most important. Partying can wait till after graduation. The clubs will always be there, the frat house will always be there, and people and music will always be there; what’s not always going to be there is my education, as long as I’m attending school, I will not participate in such activities because it’ll hinder my education
