In “Want To Get Into College? Learn to fail” (2012), Angel B. Pérez ,Vice President and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid at Pitzer College, argues that students are not okay with failing and are pressured to only show their success, Perez believes that this problem exist because teachers and parents taught them to only show their success and not to show their flaws. Perez supports his argument with his own personal experience .Perez supports his argument with “I wish I could tell you this is an uncommon story, but kids all over the world admit they are under tremendous pressure to be perfect,” (pg. 1 )
How can you graduate if you don’t show up and are actively engaged in each class? The purpose of attending college is to further education, that’s why it’s called higher education. By not going to class, one is holding themselves back from their goal. Just go to class, the professors are here to answer all the questions you have. If you feel embarrassed about asking a question, go to their office hours.
This point is further justified in an essay by the American author, named Alfie Kohn, “How Not to Get into College: The Preoccupation and Preparation”. Alfie Kohn’s essay is concerned with the fact that grades are nothing more than a number and they do not make up your life; stressing out about your grades will lead you to missing the important aspects of life that you are blinded to. I personally feel that Kohn has started a great discussion about grades; how high school students are highly influenced and affected by grades. I believe that grades have a significant impact on students because they are getting in the way of important events and moments in their lives, and also students tend to overly stress themselves due to several reasons such as over-valuing grades.
Homework is a vital part of their grade for almost every class they take, so not doing it will lower their grade in many of their classes, which also lowers their grade point average, as well as their eligibility for enrollment in colleges. Over 90 percent of teenagers
With that going to college is a complicated procedure. My dad dropped out of high school, my mom only got her high school diploma, and my sister has dropped out of community college four times. My mom told me I would never amount to anything and that I could never go to college because we don’t have the money.
This affected my grades poorly as I was tired in class from partying so much the day before. Sometimes I will fall asleep and wake up at the end of class. My final personal choice I made that impacted my grades poorly was not willing to find resources, even though we have one of the greatest libraries in the nation, I didn’t spend enough time to improve my test scores or quizzes. I could have differently made some personal decision to prevent recess. I knew my grades were going to drop very badly when I attended class late.
Flunk means to fail to reach standards; students, parents and teachers think it’s a bad thing, but is it really? Instead of thinking the negative of repeating a grade or class, people should see this as practice and becoming successful. Many students may not understand the material and making them retake it will improve their knowledge. In Mary Sherry’s essay, she talks about how teachers and parents should show that flunking is a positive teaching tool. I agree with her because we aren’t all perfect and sometimes we need that extra lesson
There are many reasons I believe I should be inducted into National Honors Society. First, I maintain an A grade average. Second, I am a leader in my school and community. Third, I am very active with actives in and out of school. These are all great qualities to have.

Perez supports his argument by explaining to his readers that perfection does not exist. He also tells the reader that just because we make errors in high school doesn't really mean that it’s going to define us in the future. The author’s purpose is to point out the benefits of going into college, in order to show the reader that perfection isn’t what colleges look for.
The Failures of Free College Chris Christie, a Republican candidate running for president, recently stated that “... if college graduates are going to reap the greater economic rewards and opportunities of earning a degree, then it seems fair for them to support the cost of the education they 're receiving. Earning a degree should actually involve earning it.” Recently, free college has been a topic for debate. In January of this year, President Obama presented his proposal to America for community college, free of charge. This proposal of free college is impractical for everyone around the world.

There are many leading factors on why people might not go to college. Some reasons may include: financial aspects of college, the tests you must take to get in, or just having no desire to go to college. Currently I am a high school senior and I have been given the option to go to college. I am trying to figuring out what I want to spend my life doing.
Growing up, for most people, going to college is not an option- its an expectation. In our society, going to college has become a fundamental part of our education, becoming an adult, and for most people just simply part of our lives. However, as people grow up and experience reality, the realization hits that college may not be as simple as once thought. As much as attending college is expected from the majority of young people, dropping out of college is not. Even with the idealization of the college experience, some students are forced to cut their education short due to a plethora of issues.
Grades are just numbers. They do not measure intelligence, in the same way that age doesn 't define maturity. At least once, majority of students in school have experienced getting poor grades. These grades are forcing them to be “smart” and, to such a great extent, they feel stressed and pressured. In fact, grades actually do extra harm to them than good since they have negative effects on students’ mental health.
