A little over two years ago, I started working as a Community Support Individual for Pathways Transition Programs LLC. My primary responsibility is to teach children various coping skills to manage their behavior, I have determined that I want to be able to address the emotions behind the behaviors. My desire is to be able to help the children I work with come to terms with their past histories so they can move on in their lives towards adoption and other positive outcomes. Sometimes, the children are still going through issues such as, on-going traumas, the lost of a parent due to death or incarceration, etc and I would like to develop the skill set to be able to address these issues. I see pursuing my degree through Argosy University as being the next step to take in order to develop a competency in counseling.
As a hopeful future undergraduate at IUPUI, I am eager to participate in the nursing program. Currently I am taking a class at my high school that will allow me to become a certified nursing assistant if I pass the state exam. Although I have only started this school year, I can tell that I have found my passion through nursing. With this simple goal, I plan to focus on my school work and dedicate my time at IUPUI. Besides the school aspect, I also want to participate in numerous extracurricular activities offered.
Throughout high school I have participated in many different activities and programs, but one of the opportunities I was given I will carry with me forever. As a junior at River Valley I participated in the Marion General Teen Volunteer Program. After interviewing and being placed in the physical therapy unit I took the opportunity to branch out into other areas of the hospital. I soon made my way to the labor and delivery floor where everyday a miracle happened. My duties while volunteering included assisting the nurses during hearing checks, changing diapers, and rocking crying infants in special care.
Personal Statement- Stephanie Olivera Growing up I was always the odd one in our family. When my parents started having children, they did not plan us very well. I am 5 years younger than my older brother, 4 years younger than my sister and 8 years older than my younger brother. I was the child that did not have anyone to "play" with, and I grew accustomed to being alone.

The second question was how multicultural training explains additional variations in multicultural counseling competencies after accounting for the variation in competencies due to demographic and experiential variables. Many people come across roadblocks through their journey of life. I know I've had my fair share of them. The biggest bump in my academic life was changing it completely upside down. Growing up african American or with any skin that holds the slightest of pigment is not easy, but that's obvious due to our nation's past. Racism and stereotypeing has always been there.
QUESTION TWO: Discuss how your life experiences have shaped you for a career in counseling. How have your personal experiences prepared you to deal with human and social problems? What has been the contribution of your family and your friends to your experiences? How do your personal values relate to the values of the profession of Clinical Mental Health Counseling?
Bethany Hill once stated, “Every child you pass in the hall has a story that needs to be heard, maybe you are the one that needs to hear it.” That quote works because the person might have trouble at home and they might need a counselor to almost let a burden off of their shoulders and tell their story to. Some of the reasons Career Cruising chose being a school counselor for me because I like training and teaching, working with children and providing advice. I am most interested in pursuing a career as a school counselor because of its likeable working conditions, straightforward responsibilities and simple career preparations.
I struggled with my education since the age of nine. I lived in an abusive home for three years while changing schools constantly and later being transferred into the foster care system until my mother gained full custody of my siblings and I. Thanks to my counselors, I was able to focus my mind on my education. They always believed in me and guided to take the appropriate steps through my education and through my personal relationships. I have jumped obstacles and I will continue to thrive for success. By helping students with their academic goals, I will be able to provide students the opportunities that were given to me by different counselors.
I once heard a quote that says "The art of communication is the language of leadership. "- I have always been a person that likes to communicate and enjoys learning more about other cultures, and life styles. I always loved to see how things are the way they are and figure out how they got into a certain place. That is why I decided to study Marketing. For me marketing was a way to find out how everything got into a certain place and learn the process in how something was created, communicated, advertised, and promoted.
I feel like starting off dumb and getting serious so I can get into a writing zone and it won’t be awful. Some dumb thing that I need to do to make my life better would be I really need to find something to read that isn’t manga. Why? Because I’m a huge book lover and I always feel empty without a book and I want to fall in love with a book again and not want to put it down, which I can do with manga but my manga is taking forever to come in from the library and the volumes only take me an hour to read and I need something a little bigger. To get deeper with why I like to read is because I love the feeling of escaping, of being away from all of the hardships of my life and to see all the other problems of fake people, and think about the world
Like other professions in the mental health field and helping professions, counseling typically attracts those who are imbued with a need to help others, to make a difference in others’ lives, the community around them and sometimes even the world. There are many facets to a counselor and to counseling, some of which take on personal attributes such as personality, the values and beliefs held by counselors, and what they perceive their role in the counseling profession to be. Other facets involve ethical considerations in therapy, the importance of the profession, the value and process of change, important counseling practices and the value of necessary self-care a counselor ought to engage in. The role of a counselor is to act as a conduit to change and wellbeing in a client.
