Why I Want to Attend College
“I think a college education is important no matter what you do in life,” famed golfer Phil Mickelson once said. This reigns true for many Americans in today's society. My purpose in attending college is that I can get a degree in something I love, provide a steady and comfortable future for my family, and to engage in my community more effectively.
To begin with, obtaining a degree in government has been a goal of mine since I met my Virginia House Delegate Lee Ware, when I was in middle school. Seeing his office and learning what he did and how he impacted the community that I lived in made me fall in love instantly. The Cliché phrase “you don't have to work a day in your life if you love what you do,” still crosses my mind when I think of what I could do after I obtain my degree.

Becoming a member of a functioning society instead of becoming a nuisance goes hand in hand with a college degree. People who end up with a degree are more likely to vote, fulfill their civic duties and responsibilities, and work towards advancing society as a whole. If I get a higher education, I can join the ranks of pushing the community around me to be better. Also a degree means a higher probability of getting a job which in turn allows me to bring in money, spend money, and allow capitalism and a free market to go through it's natural cycle. As for the advancement and effectiveness of the political system, a higher income correlates to a higher income tax rate. The more money I bring in, the more money I pay to the local, state, and federal government for roads, bridges, school, etc. This money that goes out of my income helps the government govern, and an a higher income with a degree allows me to contribute to that as much as possible.
