My desire to attend college is fueled by the hope of change. In my mind, and in my family’s mind also, college will lead to a positive change in a person’s life. Change not only financially, but spiritually and socially. Attending school is one of the most viable ways to understand the world we live in. Without education, the people in our society are blinded by stereotypes, misconceptions, and rumors from the real truth about the world. Majority of our society’s uneducated minds are the reason for our hatred, prejudices, and injustices that causes wars, riots, and chaos within our countries. I wish to pursue higher education in order to expand my knowledge about the world: its people and its assets. Countries are closer than ever and people are closer than ever. We have never made this much contact with other people in different countries. Each of our perspectives about one another is obtained through social media and little from education. This is the sad part of it because it makes us view one another negatively. Social media has the power to define a country just by using a single person or a single act. Through my schooling, I was able to learn that every person is unique. One’s action is not fueled by their entire background, but by their entire self. We punish many for being something they have no control of (such as their race); when in reality, we should be punishing ourselves for being so ignorant. Education has the ability to unlock wonders about the world and ourselves. A part of me believes that people fear learning because they are afraid to stumble upon something about themselves they never realize existed.
