As an immigrant myself, I will always be grateful to the country that took me in. When I first moved to Australia, the language barrier was a hard obstacle to overcome, but I was still treated as if I was one of their own. Ultimately giving me and my family a better life. However that was 11 years ago. In the past 5 years Australia has seen drastic changes in immigrations laws, as many as 87 new laws regarding immigration have been put into place since 2013, at the same time we have seen drop in diversity. Although some laws have to be commended due to their assistance in battling against terrorism, most can not. Not only for the benefit of our society but the benefit of those fleeing from what we call our worst nightmare, but they call another day. Being a multicultural country improves our economy but it furthermore effects our culture, we become less arrogant and more accepting. We must start thinking more about others situation and less about our pursuit for the “Australian dream”.
When you and I wake up in the morning we think about what we’re going to eat for breakfast out of the 99 options and how todays outfit absolutely can not be similar to the clothes we have already worn, but when Syrian citizens wake up they think about how their home that they've grown up in might be bombed.
