Victims of rape often feel powerless and worthless, so they never report it. They don't report it because nothing is usually even done about it. Too many rapists run the streets free, and even of the 1 in 4 that get arrested only 97 out of 100 get any actual prison time. I believe that the way rapists are getting away with their actions is unfair and rape victims should have more rights then they get.
To start off, currently, only 3% of rapist get any prison time, I feel like that number needs to be higher, rape victims deserve more rights then what this statistic is showing. Only 3 out of 100 rapists will see prison time according to RAINN of Justice Department data. For the other 97, they walk free with little to no consequences. These rapists are running free, making it seem like it is fine what they are doing. In an Illinois task force survey in the book titled Sexual Harassment and Teens 70% of the 1,500 women said they had been sexually harassed in some way. Most of these aren't even reported, and if they did would anything even be done about it? If we don't punish people for these acts of sexual abuse, they will continue to think it is okay and they can get away with it, because nothing is being done about it, thus developing repeat offenders. This means that the 97 people they are setting free, there could possibly be 97 more victims. Sexual abuse is happening all around us, people just don't see it.
