Persuasive Essay: Dance Are Phenomenal Athlete

A Canadian actress known as Neve Campbell once said that “Dance is certainly a sport, and [dancers] are phenomenal athletes, and they’re also artists.” This quotation shows that dance can be named as a sport, and that dancers can be perceived as both an athlete and an artist. Being a dancer for about thirteen years, I personally attest to this statement. Having experienced dance trainings of different styles, competing in local and international competitions, and being able to showcase myself in countless performances, I believe that I should be considered as an artist and an athlete, and that my craft is to be counted as a sport. Dance as a sport may be agreed upon by some people, while others may reject the idea. However, people cannot really tell which side to be on without knowing what a sport is. As mentioned in the Oxford dictionary, a sport is “[a]n activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment”. With this definition in hand, people have a better understanding of what sport is. This would allow them to have a better judgment on whether or not dance can be considered as one. He started taking ballet classes in his senior year in college when his trainer mentioned to him that taking classes could keep him in football. The player said that ballet helped in strengthening his ankles, knees, and feet. He also mentioned that not taking ballet for a while showed results that ballet training really made a significant difference in his condition. Also, considering that he is a football player, he stated that “[b]allet is harder than anything else I do”.
