In 2009, climate change killed thousand and affected millions and is projected many more deaths in the upcoming years(4). Carbon Tax can help solve these problems and more, so it needs to be used in America now! Carbon Tax is "a tax on the emissions caused by the burning of coal, gas, and oil, aimed at reducing the production of greenhouse gases"(3). The money made from these taxes could also go towards needed government funding. There are two gases that make up almost all of the atmosphere, nitrogen and oxygen, the other gases in the atmosphere are called greenhouse gases. These gases are only considered greenhouse gases if they trap and hold heat in the atmosphere, causing the green house affect, leading to global warming(1). There are many significant greenhouse gases we use every day, one of which being Carbon Dioxide(1). A compound used in every day life, we exhale it from our lungs, we emit it from our cars, it is even used in the photosynthesis of plants, and there are many more uses as well. This tax will not only cause people to want to try emitting as little greenhouse gases as possible but will also encouraged them to make smarter choices about using these gases, and lets not forget this extra money …show more content…

This tax started at ten Canadian dollars per ton of Carbon Dioxide emitted, then it eventually rose, in 2012, to thirty Canadian dollars per ton(2). This in fact did help, emissions diminished from five percent to fifteen percent, but it did not have a huge effect on the total economic performance and this tax ended up being five percent of the total tax revenue(2). This tax did make fuel more expensive, although it did encourage people to be more cautious about cooling and heating homes and reducing the amount they would drive(2). This also caused businesses to put money into energy-efficient procedures and shift to more environmentally friendly
