Son of a Gun: Carrying a Concealed Weapon Mass shootings and gun violence are increasing in the United States at an alarming rate. Why are they increasing? These shootings are increasing because guns are getting into the wrong hands. There are many ways to try to solve this conflict, but the best way is to defend the people of the United States with weapons of their own. However, this is not to be confused with “fighting fire with fire.” Law abiding citizens should simply have a means of defense against gun-using criminals, and the best defense is carrying a gun of their own. Although some may argue that more guns would just mean more danger, any citizen who does not have a criminal record should be permitted to carry a concealed weapon because it makes people safer, prevents public shooting sprees and makes criminals think twice before committing a crime. …show more content…

In most of the US, there is a permit needed to do so. However, concealed carry is legal in all fifty states with some differences(“Concealed Weapons Permitting”). Obtaining a permit for concealed carry differs for many states, and some include tests and background checks. As of now, there are no federal laws stopping lawful citizens from obtaining a concealed carry permit in all fifty states. Carrying concealed weapons will make law-abiding citizens safer than before. With a weapon to defend one's self, concealed carry “would deter would-be mass shooters who look for gun-free zones to kill people“(Farrington.) Not only does this make armed citizens feel safer, it actually makes them safer. If somebody was to attack them, they now have a higher chance of surviving due to carrying a concealed weapon rather than being unarmed. That fact alone should be a big concern when dealing with concerns about concealed
