Conversion therapy is the practice of finding a, usually unstable, lgbt person, and using psychological manipulation so they will “turn straight”. It is an extremely toxic practice that promotes nothing but hate. Conversion therapy should be banned in Minnesota because there is very limited evidence conversion therapy can change one’s sexuality, and because the treatment is detrimental to the patient's well-being.

Crime threatens the general peace and well-being of the nation, that is why it is illegal. Drugs cause serious long and short-term damage to one's person as well as society, that is why they were banned. It has always been the job of the government to do what is best for the people, and to keep them safe. In 1973 the American Psychology Association declared homosexuality was no longer a disease [SIRS]. Doctor Evelyn Hooker had proved that psychologically homosexuals and heterosexuals brains function in the same way [APA2]. It has been proven over and over that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality. It is not a disease, it is not the result of trauma, and it will not bring harm unto people. Homosexuality is perfectly normal and natural, therefore programs such as D.A.R.E would not be at risk because they have reason to be there. If a program has evidence, and an actually need to be initiated, it will still be legal. Conversion therapy should be banned because it is as harmful as it is useless. In conclusion conversion therapy should be banned within the state of Minnesota because it is almost completely ineffective, and because it is extremely harmful to the patient's well-being. It promotes the idea that homosexuality is a disease, and discriminates against millions of people within the United States alone.
