Conversion therapy (also known as reparative therapy) is any treatment that aims to change sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual. The American Psychological Association does not believe that this is even possible. APA does not even believe that homosexuality is a mental disorder. A common argument against same sex couples is that they will not make good parents or may raise gay/lesbian children. Same-sex couples make a conscious decision to raise children. For example, evidence from multiple studies shows that genetics plays a role in determining sexual orientation (Rodriguez-Larralde & Paradisi,2009). They did this genetics experiment with siblings i.e identical twins, fraternal twins, and nontwin siblings. Research has shown that genetics contributes to the “hmosexual orientation” in both men and women. There has also been a study that shows that environmental factors may also key into your sexual orientation; these include social and biological factors as opposed to your “gay” family raising you. These studies show that secual orientation is partially influenced by genetics but the “gay gene” is not one gene, but multiple genes in a complex arrangement. Anyway, a conclusion that can be drawn from these multiple studies is that “some biological factors are correlated with a homosexual orientation” (Mustanski & others,
