Over the past couple of years, the world has gone soft. Now, people get scared if their kids stay out past sunset. People get worried if they do not know where their kids are. People call the coach and complain that their kid got cut. They say things like “My kid should have made the team” or “My little Jimmy’s feelings got hurt, everyone should make the team.” But imagine if everyone did make the team. On the bench,30 kids are waiting to go on the court and play. Everyone gets a total of 2 minutes. Is that fair? During tryouts, cuts can be good. With cuts, there will be space on the bench. More playing time will be available and the coach will have an easier time with fewer kids to worry about. The team will be more successful.
