Feeding America In my community, the Rio Grande Valley, 1 in 2 children go to bed hungry. Most kids do eat dinner, but one of low nutritional value to just barely repress the pangs of hunger. Hunger affects anyone in only negative ways. In children, hunger can impact their performance in school, extracurricular activities or even a successful future. Can there be a solution to this unjust problem that children and teenagers have to face? When these underfed children go to school they are provided with breakfast and lunch which can really help with the nutritional value of their daily food intake, especially with continuously bettering selections of food for these meals. However, three meals a day is very important particularly in young growing people, and when they come home to an empty pantry or refrigerator it will make it hard to do homework or participate in extracurricular activities. If they do have something to eat, it's usually something fairly inexpensive with low nutritional value and only ends their hunger temporarily. Because hunger affects the performance of these kids in school, it limits their opportunities for college or university and beyond. If these kids are not concentrating in class due to being hungry then, they ultimately cannot meet the grades required for certain post-secondary options the students may be interesting in, therefore, their chances for a bright or successful future are limited. Many of these children may have big plans or dreams for the future but due to hunger and the distraction it can be when they are trying to learn and succeed in school damages their opportunities to fulfill these
