What's the issue concerning equality for same-sex couples? Recently this question has become one of the most controversial topics in North Carolina. And let's face it the issue isn't going to just disappear anytime soon. While conservatives protest the tide of change, the LGBT community rallies for progress. Although We live in an unprecedented time of transition and change the fact remains the legalization of gay marriage is now standing on the forefront of a national battlefield. The moral argument put forward by conservatives is that homosexuality is unnatural. Popular culture defines traditional marriage as a life-long commitment between a man and a woman. Same-sex couples simply want the benefits and recognition that is freely given to heterosexual couples. Marriage allows same sex couples to be recognized and protected under federal law. This recognition would also entitle same-sex couples the benefits offered to heterosexual couples. These benefits include life insurance eligibility, tax breaks and the deductions, and above all else being supported by the Federal Government.
